I have this friend who deals with his problems by talking about them. He would rant and complain and insult the parties associated with his problem and when he is done, he will sleep and forget about it, just long enough for another problem to arrive, after which he would resume his rant with reference to his long list of previous wallows.
Talking sometimes helps relieve the stress of a situation and it increases the chances of finding someone who would be able to help. Unfortunately, every man has to help himself when it comes to caring for our planet, but this is something that has been talked about for some time now. The question now is when we all will do more than talking.
How many times have you wanted to do something and you took the bull by the horns? Radically, spontaneously, on the spot. Like sing karaoke or skinny dipping at the beach or attending a bizarre party. Sometimes, the fleeting feeling of motivation is so overwhelming, the thought to take action often eludes us. And it is exactly what happens when people speak of the green revolution.
Who told you people don’t want to breathe good air? Who told you people don’t want to walk on neat roads without trash everywhere? Who told you people don’t want the oceans to be clean? People want Mother Earth to be okay, but apparently not so much as to risk their own comfort. So for the time being while the climate isn’t hot enough to burn your hair off and while the air is still breathe-able even though it is polluted, people will do nothing.
One thing that humans are good at is waiting for wake up calls. But I’d like to think we’ve had too many already. It would be ludicrous to keep waiting for all the ice in Santa’s hometown to melt all over Africa. It becomes increasingly obvious that if we keep doing nothing, we will pay heavily for it.
So that’s a wakeup call for you, dearest gentle reader.
When?
